OpenDoors 24 hr Warming & Cooling Center
1139 Main Street, Pawtucket
Updated as of June 2023
OpenDoors has been operating a 24 hr Warming & Cooling Station at 1139 Main Street in Pawtucket 24 since February, 2023.
This is a low-barrier warming station that does not require CES referral for entry and is available for any unhoused men and women. Access to beds is limited to only 31 individuals at this time, though that capacity may increase. The overall capacity of the warming station is currently 55 individuals at a time and is based on a first come first serve basis. There is a raffle each day at 6:00 to determine which resident obtains a bed. Anyone can drop in during the day and will be allowed in provided there is capacity. The building is generally at capacity every night, so people who are looking for a place for the night are encouraged to stop by during the day to talk to the staff and learn more about current space.
Currently, there is no intake or referral process, and we have capacity to accept more visitors and residents.
The warming station will provide:
3 Meals a Day
Bathrooms
No access to showers initially
Peer recovery support services and other supportive services
The facility is operated by OpenDoors and owned by the Pawtucket Housing Authority, with operational funding provided by the Rhode Island Department of Housing.
