Housing Services

OpenDoors recognizes that finding affordable housing can be one of the biggest obstacles faced by formerly incarcerated individuals. Our housing program is designed to complement other services provided through our Resource Center, including financial literacy, employment, computer classes, and support groups.

Housing Preparedness

OpenDoors offers a comprehensive Housing Preparedness Program designed to help clients learn some of the skills they will need to know to find and maintain stable housing.  Please call 401-781-5808 for more information.

Permanent Supportive Housing

OpenDoors moved to its new 15,000 square foot home in June 2011. With support from Rhode Island Housing, OpenDoors renovated a former ice cream factory in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Providence. The renovated mixed-use building will provide 19 units of permanent supportive housing for clients, as well as program and office space. OpenDoors secured over four million dollars, including two EPA grants for environmental remediation of the site, a commitment from the Neighborhood Opportunities Program for operating subsidies, full support of the City of Providence for the project, and Section 8 rent subsidy vouchers from the Providence Housing Authority. It will be the only supportive housing program in Rhode Island to specifically support the successful reentry of formerly incarcerated individuals. OpenDoors’ new home also is designed to meet LEED Gold building standards.
